Reflection on gerontology 599

One of the more interesting activities of the class was the visit to the mortuary in Long Beach. I found this is it both interesting and fascinating including the autopsy performed by the mortician. I did not go into a witness the autopsy because of my personal feelings in regards to death, but it was good to see the number of the students who witnessed the autopsy. Additionally my group did its presentation on African American funeral rituals I discovered that a number of the rituals came from Africa by way of slaves in the Southern State and that was a divergent between African Americans in the South and North. Additionally found that food is very important in African American funeral services along with gospel music. My groups presentation provided the class with food that is considered southern in style or soul food. The class thoroughly enjoyed our presentation. In addition our group members had the pleasure to meet with members of the African American community. Another group discuss the funeral practices Mexican American and in addition to discussing funeral services they presented information in regards to the day of the dead.  I found a group presentation to be a success. I especially enjoyed the day of the dead cookies. In conclusion the death and dying class was a unique experience booth culturally and education.
