Reflections on Personal Finance For The Aging Gerontology 420

The class dealt with financial planning and investment management for seniors. The class provided a review of financial planning. The class looked at individual products including mutual funds and annuities. Investment, retirement planing for seniors additionally the class discussed financial planning for class participants. Having a financial background I found the class both informative and useful. The class is a good class for students who may have a limited background in financial planning. The major advantage I had was 14 years experience in financial planning. The class discussed the 3 legged stool concept of financial planning individual retirement planning, social security and employee pension.  The instructor had a good grasp of the material being discussed. Furthermore the class enjoyed different speakers on topics including estate planning, retirement planning an asset management,  mortgages were also discussed. Helping students with a limited background to understand the complexity of the investment market. Financial planning is not taught in high school or college, most students have limited understanding. Additionally students often lack the ability to manage their own finances even balancing a checkbook proves to be challenge. The class was a provided great guidance on financial planning. In conclusion it is my opinion that all students should take a class in financial planning.
