Gerontology 500 Professional Gerontology

Reflection of class, the class dealt with the issues in regards to employment in the field of Gerontology. The class reviewed interviewing techniques, resumes and the masters program in gerontology at California State Long Beach. The class had a number of individual guest speakers who helped to build the community of the class. Professor Claver acted as a mediator while individual speakers came to the class. Professor the e-portfolio assignment allowed students to create internet about themselves in the progress in the program. I especially enjoyed this assignment because I've had a fear of technology and wanted to create a website for my business. This course allowed me to create a website using Weebly and I will be creating additional website for my business using the same service. The field trip to the career center allowed students to receive professional advice on resumes, job hunt and interviewing techniques. Additionally Professor Claver had class meeting in which students advanced in the program experience discussed their experience. This class was important class because it was designed as an overview of the profession of gerontology. In conclusion I would recommend this class to others in the masters program. My only frustration is that it met on Monday evenings during the fall of 2010 I was not able to watch Monday Night Football.  Another technique used in the class is the mock interviews and 1 minute elevator conversation which allowed students to become comfortable with presenting themselves to other individuals.

In conclusion I found the class both interesting and informative and would recommend a class to other students in the masters program. Especially given that America's older population is rapidly expanding, making gerontology one of the fastest growing fields today.
